Wellington Street Park

Wellington Street Park

The competition-winning scheme for the last plot at Central Park offered a non-conforming scheme that delivered a greatly enhanced public domain outcome. With careful remodelling of the building envelope, a generous north-facing communal plaza was accommodated together with a linear park on Wellington Street. The landscaped plaza provides breathing space for high density living and a lush outlook from integrated retail tenancies and lower level apartments.

To the south, a landscaped buffer to the existing neighbourhood creates greater amenity for both new and existing residents. The highly permeable ground plane is rich and textured with pedestrian experiences around and through the building. Densely planted public and private gardens offer a backdrop to public life and screening for lower residences. The brick warehouses and terraces of Chippendale and its colourful history are celebrated in the ground plane.

All roofs visible from surrounding buildings include green roof planting, communal spaces and private terraces, greatly contributing to the social and sustainability agenda.
