Construction is well underway at The Cutaway, transforming a concrete shell beneath Barangaroo Reserve into one of Sydney’s most significant cultural destination.

 

This project will deliver a landmark cultural and events facility spanning three levels, featuring a facade referencing Saltwater Country caves, overlooking Nawi Cove. The design concept emerged from a meaningful and collaborative process with many knowledge keepers and creatives, led by Bangawarra and Jake Nash. On the outset, this collaboration has shaped the vision of many forms that soften the site’s linear geometry – bringing it to life in tune with its surroundings.
Our aim is to create a space that is welcoming, safe and reflective of Connecting with Country principles. The design’s rich narrative will offer everyone the opportunity to immerse in different stories that share Sydney’s Country and celebrate the striking 14 metre high natural sandstone wall.
Through this collaborative approach, we hope to instil a lasting sense of belonging and pride for cultural custodians and the wider Sydney community.
