2 King Street, Brisbane

Kingsgate stands at the intersection of St Pauls Terrace and King Street, Fortitude Valley as a prominent gateway to the RNA precinct. Kingsgate’s singular form creates a strong entry statement to the revitalised RNA precinct. The upper workplace levels adopt a rectangular plan with all external corners rounded in plan, a design element carried throughout the building to ensure a coherent and distinctive character.

The podium levels are articulated with double-height walls clad in natural materials that draw from the RNA’s rich material heritage and craftsmanship. These walls incorporate curved surfaces with finely engineered details to create a unique yet strong site-specific appearance.

An ‘urban verandah’ along St Pauls Terrace facilitates clear sight-lines into King Street, enhancing pedestrian flow from Fortitude Valley train station and the surrounding areas. A pair of sculpted V-shaped columns define this space and reflect the RNA’s engineering heritage by elegantly transferring structural loads from the upper levels. The soffits above feature rich timber tones, extending the warm material palette into the upper levels.

The upper workplace facades feature articulated sunshades for solar and privacy control. The three horizontal rows of sunshades are incrementally tilted in response to solar orientation and views. Vision glazing extends above ceiling level, providing natural light and expansive district views from within.
