Port of Sale

Port of Sale

Through a series of new insertions, void spaces and judicial expenditure the existing brutalist building is transformed into a contemporary art gallery, library and community facilities on a very tight budget.
Wellington Shire council engaged fjmtstudio to revitalise the historic precinct known as the Port of Sale into a multi-use cultural and civic hub. Originally designed by Stephenson & Turner as an office building in the late-modern brutalist style, the brief for its alteration encompassed redeveloping the precinct of shared multifunctional spaces and revitalised links to the local port, providing the coastal town with a new cultural and community heart.

The project includes a regional Art Gallery with four gallery spaces, a public library, multi-purpose meeting rooms and art space, council chambers and function space. It also offers a visitor Information centre and a cafe.
