IFLA LBES Mid-Year Seminar – Building Excellence: Global and Indigenous Trends in Library Design

The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions hosted an international, one-day seminar at the University of Sydney, Australia, on 24 March 2023: Building Excellence – Global and Indigenous Trends in Library Design

Annie Hensley, Head of fjcplace presented the morning keynote, challenging the audience to contemplate the concept of commodification, particularly as applied to some larger library buildings and including the rise of ‘starchitects’ and signature projects. This was contrasted with the concept of hyper-local, exemplified in a range of projects, where strong grounding and connections to local community and Indigenous cultures has ensured the success of the library building as a community space.

This seminar was important for building on our expertise in community and place driven buildings particularly library and learning spaces.
