Darlington Public School Officially Open
In the middle of 2019—now over 4 years ago—we met the school principal, Michelle, and her team on-site to discuss the opportunities to create a new primary school for Darlington, as commissioned by Schools Infrastructure New South Wales.
The existing school was a true community school. We came in through the “red gate”, kids were everywhere, and there was great energy. The original buildings, designed by the government architects’ offices as a demonstration school in the 1970s, were at the end of their life; however, it was important to capture the spirit of the original campus in the new design.
We would all like to acknowledge the Darlington School Community, who put their trust in us as architects, interior designers, and landscape architects. We would like to say thank you for involving us in this great project.
We especially wish to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which the school is sited—their influence and the presence of generations of First Nations students on this site are some of Darlington’s most special aspects.
It is so rewarding to see the students coming into the school, starting to discover their new world.
